THE GIG

Dr Martens – a company with a unique style and a united spirit. Yes, we have a long and successful history of supplying customers with iconic products but we’re reaching customers in new ways and in new places now.

In this role you will be responsible for managing Dr. Martens’ outbound transportation arrangements to continental Europe, based in our Netherlands Distribution Centre. You'll select our logistics partners, negotiate our transport contracts, and manage the distribution process to make sure that our customers get the outstanding service they expect. You’ll also create and manage the budget and, working with your colleagues across the Supply Chain, drive continuous improvement in our transport operations.

The expectation is for the role to be based out of our distribution centre in The Netherlands (Roosendaal) for a minimum of 2 days a week. In addition, there will be field based activities involving travelling to key markets around Europe (Germany, Benelux, France, Italy, Spain).

As our Outbound Manager you will be responsible for the following:

Manage Dr Martens deliveries to customers in Europe through e-Com, Retail and Wholesale channels
Ensure that orders are moved in the most efficient and cost effective way, and that they arrive in line with the Service Level Agreements.
Run the transport purchasing process, negotiate freight agreements and agree contractual details. Select 3PL partners having the right ethos and infrastructure to drive growth
Lead and manage Logistics Co-Ordinator(s) to ensure OTIF deliveries to all respective sales channels, providing class-leading support for all internal and external customers.
Maintain day-to-day relationship with suppliers and report on their performance daily, weekly, monthly. Use the KPI’s to identify and implement appropriate actions.
Make sure Dr Martens always has the right amount of transport resource to deliver sales especially during peak trading.
Build a strong working relationship with colleagues across Supply Chain (from Planning to Distribution Centres, Merchandising, Finance, Procurement and Legal, etc.)
Experience of working with retail merchandising teams, designing peak and off peak delivery schedules for the retail estate.
Build the annual budget. Understand and mitigate any variances. Make sure that the carrier allocation shares which you planned are implemented
Lead the search for productivity in our transportation activity and help to ensure that we understand the cost impact of the different services we provide.
Ability to analyse costs, with the support of Supply Chain Finance organisation, and identifying opportunities to correct or improve cost per unit despatched.
Continuously improve the operation by leading and contributing to a variety of projects (systems or process based, or both). You’ll represent the Transport function in cross-functional discussions.
Build ‘best practice’ in conjunction with your counterparts in EMEA, APAC and Americas. We’re a global business and not too proud to steal good ideas from other parts of our organisation!

THE STUFF THAT SETS YOU APART

Detailed knowledge of the logistics supplier market in continental Europe
A great understanding of international distribution, preferably within an omni-channel retailer
Experience negotiating and managing transportation contracts
Proven ability to create and sustain productive relationships with suppliers and your colleagues
Strong IT capabilities, not only in Office based products such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint but also in making TMS and WMS software deliver great performance and productivity
Although fluency in multi-languages not essential, it would be a big benefit (English / Dutch / German / French preferred).
